Ill. Gov Signs Bill Banning DHEA Sales to Minors

SPRINGFIELD, Ill.On July 26,Ill. Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed into law S.B. 102, which amends the IllinoisControlled Substances Act to include dietary supplements containing ephedrine oranabolic steroid precursors, including DHEA. Effective immediately, the amendedact deems it a Class A misdemeanor to sell or supply supplements containing theprohibited ingredients. It also requires retailers in the state to verify theage of anyone attempting to buy such products, if the person appears under 18years of age. As ephedrine alkaloids and androrelated products are alreadybanned by federal law, this Illinois ban takes the further step to include DHEA.
