Tomat-O-Red® Approved as Colorant
FAIRFIELD, N.J. The Food andDrug Administration (FDA) granted approval to LycoRed Ltd. for use of itsTomat-O-Red® natural tomato lycopene ingredient as a food colorant for foodsand beverages. Tomat-O-Red is readyto- use and stable under a wide range oftemperatures; in addition, the color does not shift with changes in pH, issuitable for use in a variety of food and beverage products, and provides healthbenefits, according to the company.
This FDA approval is important for us since it opens anadditional marketing channel in the United States and creates new businessopportunities, said Morris Zelkha, chief executive officer (CEO) of LycoRed(www.lycored.com). Thanks to its beneficial attributes, Tomat-O-Red has greatpotential and we anticipate significant share in the red food colorant market.Weare beginning an aggressive marketing campaign to promote Tomat-O-Red. Thecompany noted the global natural food colorant market is estimated at $250million, with red colors accounting for between $30 million and $40 million.
