USDA Releases Report on Organic Eggs and Poultry
January 2, 2007
According to a new report from USDA, Organic Poultry and Eggs Capture High Price Premiums and Growing Share of Specialty Markets, organic poultry and egg markets in the United States are expanding rapidly. Statistics for the sector, especially the number of organic broilers, also signal expanding domestic supply.
As noted in the report, sales of organic poultry have nearly quadrupled since 2003. This market is expected to grow from $161 million in sales in 2005 to $600 million by 2010.
This report examines trends in markets, animal numbers, and prices for organic poultry and eggs. The report also covers price comparisons between organic and conventional poultry and eggs, which show significant organic price premiums for both broilers and eggs.
