PARSIPPANY, N.J.DSM Nutritional Products announced its geniVida Bone Blend significantly increased bone mineral density (BMD) by up to 3.4 percent in post-menopausal women after six months of supplementation in a clinical trial. The new data was presented at the IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis, Florence, Italy, May 5 to 8, 2010.

Due to an aging population, bone loss and the resulting increased risk of bone fracture is a growing problem globally. Approximately one- third of postmenopausal women in United States and Europe are affected. The pilot, randomized, placebo-controlled, double blind study, conducted in collaboration with Creighton University, Omaha, Neb., administered geniVida Bone Blenda patent-protected combination of geniVida brand pure genistein, ROPUFA® brand omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, and the vitamins Quali-D D3 and Quali-K K1to 58 healthy, early post-menopausal women.

William Black, vice president of new nutritional ingredients at DSM, said: The new study provides evidence of the significant health benefits offered by a multi-nutrient solution to a multi-factorial health issue such as BMD. This new evidence complements previous data showing significant menopause symptom (hot flash) relief for post-menopausal women supplementing with geniVida genistein. geniVida, therefore, potentially offers solutions for unmet short-term and long-term health needs for mature women.
