SoyLife BenefitsBones

GIESSEN, The NetherlandsSoyLife,a soygerm ingredient containing natural isoflavones from Acatris(www.soylife.com), may benefit bone mineral content (BMC) in post-menopausalwomen, according to a study published in Menopause (11,3:246-54, 2004). Researchers from the Chinese University of Hong Kong examinedthe effects of isoflavone supplementation and BMC in 203 post-menopausal women.

Three treatment groups included placebo (500 mg/d calcium plus125 IU/d vitamin D), mid-dose (placebo treatment plus 40 mg/d isoflavones asSoyLife) and high-dose (placebo treatment plus 80 mg/d isoflavones as SoyLife).BMC and bone mineral density were measured at baseline and after one year ofsupplementation. The results indicate high-dose supplementation positivelyimpacts BMC, with the greatest effect in women in later menopause or with lowerbody weight or calcium intake.
