WASHINGTONThe Life...Supplemented consumer wellness campaign has launched a new mobile app, WannaBeWell, to offer consumers a resource for health and wellness information and management. The free app is currently available for iPhones and iPads, and features expert nutrition and fitness blogs, a supplement reference library and a wellness assessment tool. The app was created by Ruder Finn Interactive for the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), which manages the Life...Supplemented campaign. For every app download, a $1 donation (maximum of $13,500) will be made to Vitamin Angels, an organization that supplies crucial vitamins to deficient children around the world in an effort to limit vitamin-related health problems.

The WannaBeWell app is filled with customizable features that will help people get and stay committed to their personal wellness routines no matter where they are, said Judy Blatman, senior vice president of communications for CRN. Its an at-your-fingertips health and wellness resource that brings convenience to the crucial wellness decisions consumers make on a daily basis.

The app offers users a animated wellness coach, which can be personalized to include various wellness inspirations or healthy  missions. The app awards a virtual trophy the user for each mission completed or app element explored; these trophies can be displayed through various social media. My Wellness Scorecard is an interactive feature that can assess baseline wellness and award trophies based on the user's overall wellness status. Reminders can be set for taking or restocking supplements. Also available through the app is a Supplemental Library, which provide information on dietary supplements, and the Supplemental blog written by nutrition and fitness experts.

We know that over two-thirds of American adults take dietary supplementsand that about half of American adults have smart phones, so this app should appeal to a wide audience, said Andy Pray, Ruder Finn Interactive. The design is consumer-friendly and easy to use, especially when it comes to customizable elements.

The app is expected to energize the dietary supplement industry, according to Blatman. "Like the campaign itself, [the app] focuses on incorporating supplements into your everyday health routine, along with other healthy lifestyle choicesin a fun but responsible way," she said. The app is just the first of many planned digital elements for Life...Supplemented, which is in its fifth year. The campaign has plans for digital advertisements and enhanced Facebook and Twitter pages.
