Bolstering Employee Morale in Tough Times

In this challenging economic winter of discontent, it’s likely salaries are frozen and many workers left out in the cold. And in tough times, employee morale can suffer, noted a recent article on HR World. Instead, companies have to come up with non-cash ways to keep workers invested in the future of the firm.
A survey conducted by OnPoint Consulting revealed a few best practices companies can implement to keep heads high. Among them: increase disclosure, sharing information on the company’s and industry’s financial position in a timely manner; implement employee recognition programs to thank workers; consider options such as unpaid furloughs or four-day work weeks instead of layoffs; and encourage employee suggestions on cost cutting measures or ways to increase productivity.
