April 10, 2008
FRESNO, Calif.—Cypress Systems Inc. announced Mark E. Whitacre, Ph.D., who was recently promoted to COO and president of operations, will be on hand at SupplySide East (Booth #1827) to discuss a film being started this Spring about his role as a whistleblower in the 1992 price fixing case involving ADM. Warner Brothers is scheduled to begin filming the movie, based on the Kurt Eichenwald book “The Informant”, depicting FBI undercover work by Whitacre during the events. Matt Damon has been cast as Whitacre in the movie, to be directed by Steven Soderbergh.
According to Cypress Systems, several supporters of Whitacre, including FBI agents involved in the original case, are attempting to obtain a Presidential Executive Clemency or Pardon for him. Cypress Systems also launched a biography Web site (MarkWhitacre.com) last year, providing detail on Whitacre’s education, research accomplishments and professional career. Paul Willis, president of Cypress Systems, said: “Mark has proven to be a valued asset to our management team. Mark openly admits to his mistakes and wishes that things had turned out differently. We are fully aware of the details of this case and Mark’s specific involvement. ... We are strong believers in second chances and Mark most certainly has earned the right to a second chance.”
