LONDONIn a review of new product launches, Datamonitor found two products that may be setting a trend for frozen functional foods, as well as some interesting sweet-savory confectionery combinations.

In the frozen food category, one product, which is touting itself as the worlds first performance ice cream," includes vitamins, minerals and fiber, as well as milk, whey and egg proteins. The second product is a coconut water sorbet, which indicates the wildly popular coconut water is venturing beyond the beverage category.

In confectionery, Datamonitor found chewing gum combining traditional mint flavor with unexpected flavors like Key lime, strawberry and chocolate. Further, a U.S. mint manufacturer is now offering fruit cake, onion rings, ranch dressing and nacho cheese flavored mints.
Along the same sweet-savory vein, a Japanese manufacturer introduced chocolate chip cookies with miso and caramel, and another cooking with sesame.
