PERRYSBURG, OhioO-I announced it is producing the new collectors edition of Heinz® Tomato Ketchup classic glass bottles. The 14-ounce glass bottle has not been sold at retail in more than 10 years, although it can be found at thousands of restaurants across the country.

According to O-I, the companys relationship with Heinz dates back to 1984, prior to the acquisition of Brockway Glass in 1988. Though the glass bottle was sold in stores until the 1990s, O-I has continued to produce the bottle for restaurant use, and in the late 1990s, redesigned the bottle to reduce its weight. O-I now is pleased to be part of this program to return a classic to consumers picnic tables across the country this summer. Its global research consistently shows that consumers prefer glass, which is associated with freshness, flavor and quality, so its not surprising that consumers clamored for the familiar glass bottle.
In a Heinz press release, Noel Geoffroy, Vice President of Heinz Brands, said: While the convenience of our current, squeezable bottles found in grocery stores has been a hit with todays families and their lifestyles, consumers still associate Heinz Ketchup with our iconic glass bottle and routinely ask where they can find them. In response to that consumer demand and to inspire memories of and relive good times from summers past, we wanted to bring back the glass bottle with a limited edition design that gives a nod to the products 135-year history."
