SECAUCUS, N.J.—“Healthy Eating Trends 2009,” a new syndicated study by The Hartman Group, is set for release in the spring. It is said to answer questions about who is eating healthier, where they are doing it, when they are doing it, and why they are doing it. Research is underway right now and features a nationally representative sample of 1,500 adult primary household shoppers, combined with in-depth qualitative consumer research.

According to Hartman, the goal of the study is to provide food industry manufacturers, marketers, distributors and retailers the most relevant and insightful data to support product innovation, marketing communications of health claims, retail strategies, product portfolios, identifying emerging ingredients/nutrients and knowledge of which food and beverage categories are best to deliver targeted health benefits. The study measures shifts occurring in channel use, price, popular foods, ingredients, healthier fast foods, notions of convenience and snacks, as well as uncovers shopper need gaps (where they want to shop vs. where they do shop).

Hartman’s Arwen Kimmell will present data from the report at the SupplySide East trade show and conference April 27-29 in Secaucus, N.J. as part of the Food & Beverage Education Track. The session “A Hartman Group Wellness Insights Syndicated Study: Healthy Eating Trends 2009” is scheduled for April 29, 10-10:50am.
