Aker BioMarine Receives MSC Certification

OSLO, NorwayAker BioMarine received Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for its sustainable practices and krill fishery infrastructure.

The company's krill-derived products sold in Australia are now eligible to bear the MSC eco-label, which guarantees sustainable practices, effective fisheries management and full product traceability from sea to shelf.

MSC certification adheres to stringent sustainability requirements with a strong commitment to ensuring a healthy ecosystem. In order to maintain MSC Certification, Aker undergoes annual auditing and must maintain certain benchmarks and conditions.

"Our ultimate goal is to continuously meet the highest environmental standards in sustainable management while producing great krill products for our customers in Australia and worldwide."

The krill market has experienced triple-digit growth in the Australian complimentary medicines market during the past 18 months, according to the company. Aker Biomarine has recently received  four krill innovation patents in Australia that contain claims covering krill oil and extraction of oil from denatured krill products.
