Gemini Pharmaceuticals received the Certified Organic Certificate from Quality Assurance International (QAI) as part of the USDA’s National Organic Program. Gemini processes and handles qualified products for the Organic Certification seal.
The agriculture-focused EPL BAS received accreditation to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories (ISO 17025:2005) in 2013. The additional accreditation creates another source of external verification of competence in the agricultural space globally.
Additionally, FMC Corporation’s Health and Nutrition division announced the halal certification for all current Epax® Ultra and Core concentrates manufactured in the FMC omega-3 facility in Ålesund, Norway. This ensures the manufacturing process and all physical raw materials fully comply with the Islamic religious regulations for halal.
Meanwhile, Albion Human Nutrition®, a premier manufacturer of patented organic mineral amino acid chelates, has named Vivion Inc. its 2014 Supplier of the Year. Vivion was also recognized for its outstanding performance in 2014.
Denise M. Ney, Ph.D., and Giuliana Noratto, Ph.D., were honored with the Mary Swartz Rose Senior Investigator Award and the Mary Swartz Rose Young Investigator Award at the American Society for Nutrition (ASN) Scientific Sessions and Annual Meeting held in Boston. Ney, professor in the department of nutritional sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studies the nutritional management of phenylketonuria (PKU), a genetic disease, which focuses on the safety and acceptability of the bioactive food ingredient glycomacropeptide, a low-phenylalanine whey protein. Her research resulted in the availability of glycomacropeptide-containing medical foods for individuals with PKU. Noratto, assistant research professor at the School of Food Science at Washington State University, focuses on the role of nutrition in the prevention of obesity-related diseases. Her projects are centered on milk and dairy-derived bioactive compounds, as well as plant food botanicals.
Finally, The American Botanical Council (ABC) presented its inaugural Champion Award to Terry Lemerond, founder and president of EuroPharma Inc. The award recognizes an individual or individuals who have been outstanding supporters of ABC, and who have helped to promote the achievement of ABC’s nonprofit educational mission. Lemerond has contributed significantly to the natural health sphere over his more than 40-year career, developing more than 400 natural products and empowering health education through his various Terry Talks Nutrition outlets.
