USP Launches Dietary Supplement Certification Program
ROCKVILLE, Md.--The U.S. Pharmacopoeia (USP) launched itsDietary Supplement Verification Program in November. Based on USP's assessmentof a manufacturer's capability to produce a supplement and test to USPstandards, the group will issue a certification mark that can be used onpackaging. USP (www.usp.org) plans to work withmanufacturers on the program, which includes lab evaluation of product samples,evaluating manufacturing quality systems through an audit, and quality controland manufacturing data reviews. The program does not address structure/functionclaims.
