RISHON LETZION, IsraelCarmit Candy Industries launched a new weight-management chocolate wafer bar utilizing satiety-inducing ingredients that will be introduced at Finished Products Europe 2013 in Geneva.

The weight-management wafer bars are chocolate-coated and contain a chocolate-créme filling. They are 99 calories each, gluten-free, GMO-free and kosher. The bar combines two ingredients, a gram of glucomannan and 300 mg of Slendesta®, a potato-derived inhibitor, both clinically proven to increase satiety.

Glucomannan is a soluble fiber from the konjac root, which can lower the glycemic index of foods and beverages through properties like its water-binding capacity. The Europe Food Safety Association (EFSA) approved a weight management health claim for a daily intake of 3 grams of glucomannan, in 1 gram doses, along with one to two glasses of water.

Slendesta, from Kemin Industries Inc., is a potato-derived proteinase inhibitor (P12), which increases release of cholecystokinin (CCK), a natural factor used by the body to signal the brain that food has been eaten thus helping to trigger fullness. Many clinical trials have shown its ability to increase satiety and contribute to weight loss.
