Chicory Root Fiber OK'd as a Dietary Fiber Source in Canada

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J.Sensus America's classification of its Frutalose® product line as a source of dietary fiber was approved by Health Canada, as the agency recognized the line as a source of dietary fiber in nonstandardized foods. Frutalose includes a variety of oligofructose products, a form of partially hydrolyzed, chicory root inulincommonly known as chicory root fiber.

Chicory root fiber products provide functional benefits, such as enhancing taste, texture and process capability. They can also serve as effective sugar replacements, exhibiting properties associated with high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), including sweetness levels as much as 65% that of sucrose. Realizing these benefits, food manufacturers have used these ingredients in bars and cerealsfor those seeking fiber in the morning, also in baked goods, confectionery and dairy products.
