WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.—ConsumerLab.com released the results of its latest round of product testing, which focused on dietary supplements for prostate health, particularly those containing saw palmetto and beta-sitosterol. According to the organization, the majority of products met label claims for saw palmetto or beta-sitosterol and met other quality standards. Four products missed the mark on either meeting label claims or failing to indicate on the label the part of the saw palmetto plant used. In addition, serving sizes on some products were different than the amounts shown to be efficacious in most clinical trials.

ConsumerLab includes the names of companies involved in the review in its general news release, but doesn’t indicate which ones passed or failed testing, nor the levels of active ingredients in the products. However, the reports with complete findings are available for purchase from ConsumerLab. The report on prostate health products provides findings for 12 products randomly selected for testing, as well as listing seven additional products that passed testing under ConsumerLab.com’s Voluntary Certification Program, whereby companies can pay to have their products tested by ConsumerLab, and three products similar to those tested.
