IRVINE, Calif.Food and beverage manufacturers can incorporate Cyvex Nutrition's Euro Black Currant extract into a range of products, after it was self-affirmed GRAS (generally recognized as safe). An independent panel of qualifiefd experts conducted an intensive review of safety and toxicology data on Cyvex's extract.

"With this GRAS designation, manufacturers can now safely and easily incorporate Euro Black Currant to transform conventional food and beverage offerings into functional products that deliver powerful antioxidant benefits," said Constance Ostler, director of sales and marketing at Cyvex Nutrition.

Black currant, studied for its role in reducing risk of Alzheimer's, is a dark-colored berry containing minerals, vitamins and more antioxidants than blackberries or blueberries. The extract is standardized to 25% anthocyanins, making it highly potent.
