FDA-Approved Health Claims Improve Product Sales

CHICAGOManufacturers would benefit from adding Food and DrugAdministration (FDA)-approved health claims to product packaging, according toMintel International Group. The groups FDA Approved Health Claims in Food indicatednearly seven out of 10 Americans feel it is easier to make purchasing decisionswhen food products bear printed health claims, which seems to indicate consumersare increasingly reading labels while shopping and are probably activelycomparing products before making a decision. Foods bearing FDA-approved healthclaims such as those for helping or preventing specific conditionshaveshown a six-year sales increase of 29 percent, and foods associated with suchbenefits are predicted to increase by about 23 percent in current prices by2007.
