NEW YORKThe National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus referred advertising claims made by Corona del Mar, Calif.-based Iceberg Laboratories LLC for its Immune Shield dietary supplement to FDA and FTC for review. The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) had challenged the claims before NAD; however, Iceberg Labs declined to participate in the review process.

The claims at issue were related to health-performance and absorbability, including the absorption of the effervescent formulations; its ability to prevent any form of flu;" and how preventive medicine" can prevent cancer onset. In a statement, NAD said it was disappointed Iceberg Labs declined to respond to the inquiry, particularly in light of the strong health claims being made, including claims that the product will fortify the immune system, prevent any Form of Flu and most troubling, claims suggesting that this supplement will help prevent and eliminate cancer."
