Man Sentenced for Mislabeling Meat

LINCOLN, Neb.A man was sentenced to one year of probation for falsely labeling a freezer full of meat as inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

As reported by Lincoln Journal Star, Cory Allemang, 38, was working at a meat processing company called Romans II when the USDA made its discovery. A food safety inspector found the company's freezer contained meat with the USDA mark of inspection; however, the meat was mislabeled, violating USDA regulations.

According to an indictment filed in federal court, the mislabeled meat included 300 pounds of sausages, 400 pounds of beef jerky, bacon, deer sticks, uncooked deer meat, deer bologna and deer sausages in bags marked as ground pork.

Allemang claimed the items had been processed, and they were being held for specific customers. His probation includes the termination of his employment in the meat processing business.
