NEW YORKThe National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus found Sensa Products LLC has reasonable support behind the express weight-loss claims for its Sensa product; however, NAD recommended the company discontinue certain testimonials.

NAD had requested support for claims about its efficacy, clinical results and method of actionthat the blend of flavored crystals enhances the smell and taste of food and promotes a faster sense of fullness. After reviewing evidence including a large body of research on the actual product and the science behind it, NAD determined Sensa has reasonable support for its express weight loss and efficacy claims.

Certain testimonials on the Sensa Web site garnered greater concern from NAD, which called out testimonials about weight loss of more than 70 or 120 pounds. Although the testimonials carried a disclaimer about individual results may vary, and noted average weight loss in clinical study, NAD found the testimonial claims that were not based on the actual study were problematic in terms of advertising, even with disclaimers. In an advertiser statement, Sensa said it would consider NADs recommendation on the use of testimonials in further advertising.
