Natural Flavor System Shelf Life Extender

FAIRFIELD, NJCytoGuard Stat-N Plus, from A&B Ingredients, increases the shelf life of natural flavor systems through microbial suppression. The ingredient is a proprietary blend of lignin fractions which contains actives from carbonyl compounds, organic acids and residual phenolics. The ingredient can improve shelf-life by 30% to 50% versus other natural preservatives.

Bakal noted that along with being incorporated into a formulation, CytoGuard Stat-N Plus can be applied as a surface treatment. "By targeting the primary location of the bacterial growth, the preservative effect is maximized while minimizing any sensory impact," he said.
