MASON, OhioSource-Omega introduced its new dietary supplement PURE ONE® DHAlicious algae oil. The company derives the oil from a 100-percent solventless extraction process using pure DHA oil. The company believes it can substantiate a new structure function claim for dietary DHA and EPA omega-3 intake from the algae oil in very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) biology uses.

We claim DHA is the definitive omega-3 used by the liver to form VLDL," said Scott Doughman, Ph.D., CEO of Source-Omega.  "Also, DHA functions in VLDLs in the circulation to maintain steady state fatty acid transport, which is what appears to dose-dependently modify levels of plasma triglycerides."

The Source-Omega claim reads: "Dietary DHA in liver cells is differentially distributed into the phospholipid monolayer of very low density lipoprotein(s) (VLDL(s))." The claim explains how dietary DHA incorporates into the structure and function of the liver and VLDL.
