BENEO Increases Price of Prebiotics

TIENEN, BelgiumBENEO increased the prices of its prebiotic fibers, inulin and oligofructose, by 8 percent. The hike will go in effect as of January 2012. The company said the rise is due to inflation as well as rising costs in energy and raw materialsmainly chicory root in Belgium and Chile, from which BENEOs inulin and oligofructose are derived.

BENEOs inulin and oligofructose are prebiotic fibers improving the balance of the bodys intestinal flora by stimulating beneficial bifidobacteria. At the same time, they can replace fat or sugar and can reduce the caloric value without altering taste and texture. In addition, the absorption of minerals such as calcium is promoted and recent research shows that oligofructose supports a lower energy intake and thus helps to reduce weight.
