Iron Poisoning in Children on Rise
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--In the April issue of The Southern Medical Journal, it isreported that an estimated 3,000 children experience iron poisoning, a number which hasincreased two-fold since the 1980s. Iron poisoning can cause liver, heart, nerve andgastric problems. The recommended daily allowance (RDA) is 10 mg for a child undersix--amounts above 450 mg can seriously harm or kill a child.
