BLAGNAC, France—Lallemand SAS and BiosTime Inc. created a joint venture, Biostime France, designed to expand the marketing of Lallemand’s probiotic cultures into the Chinese market. The products will be produced in France by Lallemand; Guangzhou, China-based BiosTime will be responsible for marketing and distribution of the probiotic products via pharmacies, specialty baby stores and supermarkets.

The companies have worked closely since 2000, when Lallemand started producing probiotic sachets for children marketed by Biostime; more than 100 million sachets are sold annually. Biostime France’s endeavors will target the adult and senior health market, with the first product expected to be designed to address irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
