Press Release
At the annual “Best of British” Food and Farming Industry Awards 2017 held recently at Westminster Palace in London, Natures Crops International (NCI) and Ahiflower® oil won the “Food Innovation of the Year” award. The event, produced by the UK’s Farm Business magazine, recognizes the best and most innovative companies, farms, farmers and agronomists in the UK.
NCI and Ahiflower oil — the first new plant-based omega-3-6-9 dietary oil in a generation — were recognized in a field of over 100 entries across 11 categories. Publisher Simon Lewis of event producer Lewis Business Media said: “Congratulations to Natures Crops International who were deserved winners on the night. Once again these awards have highlighted the breadth and depth of talent, drive, and ambition in the farming sector. We are delighted to recognize the achievements of the winners, but also all of those shortlisted, which, in itself, is a great achievement.”
Ahiflower oilseed crop is grown exclusively, sustainably and traceably in the UK by an elite group of independent farmers like Simon Parrish of Wintry Farm (Epping, Essex) who was on hand along with Matthew Jewers, Managing Director at O.C. Jewers & Sons Ltd., at the prestigious black tie event. Representing the winning Natures Crops team were Andrew Hebard (CEO) and Greg Cumberford (VP). After winning the award, Mr. Hebard remarked, “This is really a fantastic award which I am truly honored to receive on behalf of everyone who grows, makes, sells and uses Ahiflower oil. With our new Ahiflower culinary oils and emulsions coming forward in early 2018, the innovation continues!”
Ahiflower oil is manufactured exclusively by NCI and licensed to over 25 brands in the EU and North America. New food-friendly formats include Natural Traditions’ savory Ahiflower oil blends with rosemary, holy basil, and turmeric and OhMeGa! nectars launching in Q1 2018. In 2017, Ahiflower oil launched into equine supplement markets in the UK, USA, and Canada.
Ahiflower oil is the richest and most biologically advanced source of omega-3-6-9 fatty acids from a single non-GMO plant source. Ahiflower has the highest available omega-3 stearidonic acid (SDA). Recently the scientific journal Lipids ((2017) 52:781-787) published a study that found “SDA… is as effective as DHA against inflammatory response in LPS-stimulated macrophages.” This confirms and supports earlier published human clinical trial evidence that Ahiflower supports the body’s natural inflammatory response after intensive exercise.
