HEERLEN, NetherlandsDSM CEO Feike Sijbesma received the 2010 Humanitarian of the Year Award from the United Nations (UN) Association of New York.  Sijbesm was recognized for his commitment to corporate social responsibility and, specifically, for DSMs partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). Sijbesma will be presented with the award at the 2010 Humanitarian Awards dinner, scheduled for Oct. 21 in New York.

It is an honor to receive this award as an acknowledgement of DSMs commitment to addressing the issue of hidden hunger," Sijbesma said. For me, this award is given to all employees of DSM worldwide who are inspired and motivated to contribute to helping those people in the world who need our help urgently. At DSM we feel that it is our responsibility to raise awareness of and find solutions for nutrition security in order to improve the lives of millions of people in need and mobilize individuals, organizations and businesses around the world to act."

Royal DSM N.V., a supplier of vitamins and nutritional ingredients, has maintained a strategic partnership with the WFP to address the problems of malnutrition in the developing world. The partnership, termed Improving Nutrition- Improving Lives," has helped approximately 2 million people across Nepal, Kenya, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and other countries to enrich their lives through proper nutrition.

DSM has extended its partnership with WFP and will continue to provide ongoing technical and scientific support to the organization, supply food fortificants and specialty nutrition products, and will work with WFP as it develops and rolls out country-specific nutrition strategies. The partnership aims to include micronutrients for at least 80 percent of WFPs beneficiaries.

In the partnership with WFP, DSM has developed a nutritionally rich blend called MixMe (provided in sachets that can be sprinkled over foods), as well as vitamin-enriched NutriRice.
