DSM Expanding Nutrition R&D

PARSIPPANY, N.J. DSM announced plans to significantly expand its research and development (R&D) facilities in North America. The new Nutrition Innovation Center will be located at DSMs North American headquarters in Parsippany, N.J., and bring together extensive laboratory capabilities for the beverage, bakery, dairy, savory, dietary supplement and personal care market sectors. It will combine expertise from two key business groupsDSM Nutritional Products and DSM Food Specialtiesand will advance DSMs interdisciplinary approach to product development and customer support.

Mauricio Adade, president of Human Nutrition and Health at DSM Nutritional Products, said, DSMs latest investment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing global customer support and proactively developing solutions to meet market needs. DSM plans to open the new Nutrition Innovation Center in 2011 and expects it to have a significant impact on the industry. The center will house dedicated customer application suites, sensory services and customer application pilot facilities, allowing customers to access the broad portfolio of DSMs ingredient and technological capabilities.

Investment in its North American research and development facilities is part of DSMs overall strategy to provide customers with a global network of on the ground support, integrating proven technical expertise with insight into customer preferences and knowledge of key regional differences. DSM already opened two new Regional Food Application Laboratory facilities in 2009one in Shanghai, China, for dairy, baking, beverage and savory applications, and one in Sao Paulo, Brazil, mostly for beverage applications.
