ADM Expands Astaxanthin Ops

DECATUR, Ill.—Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM) and Igene Biotechnology Inc. formed a joint venture, Naturxan LLC, to produce natural-source astaxanthin. Igene has experience in astaxanthin technology, while ADM brings to the table its production and logistics expertise. The Naturxan astaxanthin will be produced through fermentation using natural Phaffia yeast, and has been approved as a feed ingredient in the United States, Europe, Japan, Canada and Chile.
