YAOUNDE, Cameroon—An extract from the African mango, Irvingia gabonensis, may hold the key to weight loss and lowering cholesterol, according to new research from the Univeristy of Yaounde.
The study participants, comprised of 102 healthy, overweight and/or obese volunteers, were randomly divided into two groups. The groups received the plant extract or a placebo twice a day for 10 weeks. Significant improvements in body weight, body fat and waist circumference, as well as plasma total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, blood glucose, C-reactive protein, adiponectin and leptin levels, were observed in the extract group.
