AICR Releases Pesticide, Additive Article

WASHINGTON--The American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR)announced the publication of nine Ever Green, Ever Healthy features. Oneof these features, "A Fact-Based Perspective on Pesticide Residues,"contained an article regarding pesticides and food additives. According to thearticle, there is no convincing evidence to support the idea that foods withpesticide residues or additives increase cancer risk when used according toofficial regulations. The article discusses pesticide regulations, safety checksfor additives, adverse event reporting, organic versus conventional produce andgenetically modified organisms. Among its recommendations, AICR stated consumersshould not decrease fruit and vegetable consumption to avoid pesticide exposure,as those who eat more produce generally have a lower risk of cancer.
