ArginMax® Enhances Sexual Function in Pre- and PeriMenopausal Women
April 2, 2008
HONOLULU, Hawaii—A recent study at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, conducted a double blind, placebo-controlled study with 108 women lacking sexual desire, age 22 to 73, to determine the role of ArginMax®, a dietary supplement for enhancement of female sexual dysfunction, on sexual function in women (J Sex Marital Ther. 2006;32(5):369-78) (DOI: 10.1080/00926230600834901). Fifty-five women received ArginMax for women, containing L-arginine, ginseng, ginkgo, damiana, mulitvitamins and minerals; and 53 received a placebo, all at different menopausal status. After four weeks, premenopausal women on ArginMax reported significant improvement in their level of sexual desire (p=.03) and satisfaction with overall sex life (p=.03), compared with the placebo group; frequency of sexual desire (p=.05) and frequency of intercourse (p=0.01) also increased. The primary improvements in perimenopausal women was in frequency of intercourse (p=.002), satisfaction with sexual relationship (p=.03) and vaginal dryness (p=.03), compared with the placebo group. Postmenopausal women showed a 51 percent increase in level of sexual desire compared with an 8 percent increase in the placebo group (p=.008). This study will be presented at the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) 40th Annual Conference, New Orleans, June 25 to 29, 2008.
