PURCHASE, N.Y.Nutrition 21Inc. (www.nutrition21.com) announced its Chromax® chromium picolinate wasgranted derogation (approval) from the United Kingdom (U.K.) Food StandardsAgency, allowing the ingredient to be used in dietary supplements soldthroughout the United Kingdom through the end of 2009. The European Food SafetyAuthority (EFSA) is reviewing the ingredient dossier to consider including it asa source of trivalent chromium in the European Union. Nutrition 21 also plans torequest approval in other countries, including Austria, Germany and Ireland,during the EFSA review process.

These are the first steps in the companys strategy toconsolidate and secure continued approval for the sale of Chromax throughout theEuropean Union, said Gail Montgomery, president and chief executive officer.Our objective is to demonstrate that our chromium picolinate technologies andproducts can help provide responsible nutritional support to reduce the publichealth burden associated with the epidemic of obesity and diabetes in the UnitedStates, Europe and other parts of the world.
