Citicoline Featured in Natural Medicine Text
TACOMA,Wash.Alexander Schauss, Ph.D., director of natural andmedicinal products research at AIBMR Life Sciences, contributed a chapter aboutciticoline to the forthcoming Textbook of Natural Medicine (ChurchillLivingstone). In addition, a manuscript on the safety of citicoline written bySchauss is set to be published in an upcoming edition of Food and ChemicalToxicology. Citicoline is an organic molecule that functions as anintermediate in the biosynthesis of cell membrane phospholipids, and has been afocus of Schauss research for several years, with particular attention onCognizin citicoline from Kyowa Hakko.
Charlie Kotani, vice president of Kyowa Hakko, noted: Kyowas continued research indicates Cognizin citicoline offers powerfulhealth benefits including supporting cognitive function, facilitating brain cellcommunication and assisting in sustaining mitochondria in the brain. Citicolinealso promotes healthy brain metabolism by nourishing and maintainingphospholipids in brain cells. Furthermore, Cognizin aids in maintaining memoryand cognitive function by supporting activity of nerves in the brain thatrespond to acetylcholine. In addition, it helps maintain normal levels ofacetylcholine, an important brain chemical that regulates memory and cognitivefunction.
