Colostrum Improves Some Aspects of Performance

WAGENINGEN, The Netherlands--Researchers from Numico Researchreported that bovine colostrum may improve certain aspects of sportsperformance. The study, appearing in the December International Journal ofSport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism (12, 4:461-9, 2002) (www.humankinetics.com),involved 35 male and female field hockey players who received either 60 g/d ofcolostrum or whey for eight weeks. In tests of speed and vertical jump, thecolostrum group had a significant improvement over the placebo group. However,there were no significant differences in body composition or endurance betweengroups.
