ConAgra Pledges to Fight Child Hunger

OMAHA, Neb.Feeding America® is accepting applications for members of the new ConAgra Foods Child Hunger Corps that was established as part of a $10 million grant from the ConAgra Foods Foundation. The deadline for applications is Feb 26. The grant also supports other new Feeding America child hunger initiatives, including the Summer Feeding Program and the ConAgra Foods Fund to Fight Child Hunger.
ConAgra Foods Child Hunger Corps members will be charged with providing on-the-ground support for community-based efforts to help end child hunger while working in food banks affiliated with Feeding America. Corps members will be responsible for developing a food banks capacity and capability to execute program models targeted toward the alleviation of child hunger, with the objective of increasing access to nutritious food in times when children need it most: in the summer, afterschool, on weekends and school vacations, and at home. Corps members will serve a 2-year placement at a local food bank.
In 2010, the first six members of the Child Hunger Corps members will be based Feeding America-affiliated food banks in Little Rock, Ark.; Ft. Myers, Fla.; Houston; Grove City, Ohio; Portland, Ore.; and Salem, Va. Over the next five years, the ConAgra Foods Child Hunger Corps will expand to a total of 35 members in 35 cities nationwide. The position is a volunteer stipend position administered by Feeding America; corps members will receive living allowances and benefits from Feeding America.
