LONDON—A recent survey of nearly 1,000 global industry executives from the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry identified health as the most important of 10 mega-trends identified by Datamonitor (www.Datamonitor.com) as shaping new product development and marketing. In all, 41 percent of industry respondents felt health was “very important”, and only 9 percent felt it was “unimportant”. The consumer arm of the survey found more than half of European and U.S. shoppers used nutritional information on packaging with greater regularity to make food and drink choices in 2006; nearly two-thirds (65 percent) of consumers took additional steps to eat more healthily in 2006; and consuming fresh food and drink is considered the most important route to a healthy diet.
