Degussa, Brain Twist to Introduce New Beverage Technology

MILWAUKEEDegussasFreshTech Beverages, a division of the companys Creavis Technologies &Innovation unit, joined forces with Brain Twist (www.braintwist.com) to launch a new product packaged in Degussas FreshCan® technology, a beverage can with an air- and water-tightplastic container (FreshCan Wedge). The new product, Defense Vitamin &Mineral Supplement, a beverage formulated with immune-boosting ingredients, isthe first commercial application of the new beverage can technology. DefenseVitamin & Mineral Supplement will become available at retail to coincidewith the start of flu season.

The FreshCan Wedge is designed to store time- andliquid-sensitive vitamin supplements in a dry state, preventing contact with thebeverage until the tab of the can is pulled, initiating the mixing process. The vitamins and minerals mixing with the beverage produce afizzing sound, allowing for an entertaining user experience.

The new product will be available in Natural Orange or LemonLime flavors and will be formulated with zinc; pectin; vitamins A, C, B2 and E;and calcium to help defend against pathogenic infections.

FreshCan technology is pulling the tab on a completely newmarket segment, said Dr. Ralf Jager, Ph.D., manager and vice president ofmarketing and sales with Degussa FreshTech Beverages.
