Dried Plums Act as Natural Preservative

COLLEGE STATION, Texas—Dried plums may offer an alternative to using synthetic preservatives to keep ready-to-eat meat fresh, according to a new study published in Meat Science.

According to the study, dried plums’ natural antioxidants can replace synthetic antioxidants like “butylhydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylhydroxytoluene (BHT) to slow down the oxidative deterioration of food,” NutraIngredients reported.
