AUCKLAND, New Zealand—A recent study found supplementation with Enzogenol® pine bark extract (from ENZO Nutraceuticals) has beneficial effects on cognition in older individuals (Phytother Research. 2008;22(9):1168-74). The double blind, controlled study supplemented 42 males, aged 50 to 65 years, with a body mass index (BMI) greater than 25, for five weeks with either Enzogenol® containing flavonoids plus vitamin C, or with vitamin C only. The speed of response for the spatial working memory and immediate recognition tasks improved, and a trend in a reduction of systolic blood pressure was also observed after supplementation with Enzogenol plus vitamin C, whereas vitamin C alone showed no improvements. The blood safety parameters were unchanged.
