Ethical Naturals ~ AlphaWave

SAN ANSELMO, Calif.Ethical Naturals Inc. (ENI) developed AlphaWave, a purified L-Theanine for use in supplements and beverages to promote relaxation. AlphaWave is manufactured in a proprietary process by which it is derived from another naturally occurring amino acid, and is standardized to 98 percent L-Theanine.  The purified material is chemically identical to Camelia sinensis, found in green tea.

AlphaWave is also offered in a Calming Blend, containing purified L-Theanine with extracts of: chamomile, lemon balm, passion flower, hops and valerian. L-Theanine creates a sense of relaxation via at least two different mechanisms: It directly stimulates the production of alpha brain waves, creating a state of deep relaxation and mental alertness similar to that achieved through meditation; and its involved in the formation of the inhibitory neurotransmitter, gamma amino butyric acid (GABA). GABA influences the levels of two other neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin, also producing key relaxing effects.  Furthermore, L-Theanine has been shown to reduce mental and physical stress, and improve cognition and mood in a synergistic manner with caffeine.
