Fenugreek Ingredient Improves Blood Glucose Levels

MINNEAPOLIS--Acatris Inc. announced its FenuLifeingredient had a dose-dependent effect on lowering blood sugar levels innon-diabetic subjects, according to results of a small human trial conducted atGlycaemic Index Testing Inc. in Toronto. Researchers gave a group of 10non-diabetic subjects a 50 g glucose solution enriched with psyllium huskpowder, oat bran concentrate or one of four doses of FenuLife. Blood tests takenat 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after ingesting the glucose indicated areduction in blood sugar levels at all dosages of FenuLife, a fenugreekgalactomannan ingredient. The most significant improvements were noted with thehighest dose, according to the company (www.acatris.com),and neither oat bran nor psyllium husk elicited a result.

Acatris also announced results from a second study, conducted inJapan, indicating FenuLife had beneficial effects on fasting blood sugar levelsin patients with Type II diabetes. Once patients with mild to moderate Type IIdiabetes reached desired fasting blood sugar levels, a reduced dose of FenuLifemaintained the improvement. In subjects with severe diabetes, FenuLifereportedly improved the reduction of fasting blood sugar when combined withconventional medical treatment.
