Flax Lignans May Promote Hair Retention, Reduce Prostate Size

MINNEAPOLISFlax lignans maythwart hair loss in men suffering androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and treat benignprostate hyperplasia (BPH)a non-malignant enlargement of the prostate glandthat causes urinary obstructionaccording to pilot studies conducted byAcatris Inc.

In the companys study on flax lignans and hair loss, 10men, between the ages of 20 and 70 and with varying stages of AGA, took 250 mg/dflax lignans (as LinumLife® EXTRA) for six months. Hair loss was trackedthrough photographic documentation. At the conclusion of the test period, eightmen reported modest improvement of their AGA, one reported significantimprovement and one subject reported no effect. Subjects who noticed improvementdid so within one to two months of taking flax lignans. The most dramatic improvements occurred in individuals withmore severe AGA conditions. In addition, half of the test subjects reported adecrease in oil secretion on their scalp and no adverse events were reported.

In the companys study on flax lignans and prostate size,LinumLife EXTRA was administered to Wistar rats with induced BPH. Animals givendiets including LinumLife EXTRA had significantly smaller prostates compared tothose not administered LinumLife EXTRA.
