Forskolin Improves Body Composition
PISCATAWAY, N.J..Extract of Coleusforskohlii improves body composition by significantlyreducing body fat, according to a randomized, double blind, placebo-controlledstudy published in Obesity Research (13,8:1335-43, 2005).
Researchers from the University of Kansas randomlyadministered 250 mg of 10-percent forskolin (as ForsLean®, from Sabinsa Corp.)or placebo twice daily to 30 overweight and obese men (body mass index 26kg/m2), for a 12-week period. Compared to the placebo group, test subjectssupplemented with forskolin showed a significant decrease in body fat percentageand body fat mass. In addition, forskolin supplementation brought about anincrease in bone mass and a significant increase in serum free testosteronelevels, compared with placebo. The researchers concluded oral ingestion of theactive treatment for a 12-week period was shown to favorably alter bodycomposition while concurrently increasing bone mass and serum free testosteronelevels in overweight and obese men, and noted the results indicate forskolin isa possible therapeutic agent for the management and treatment of obesity.
These findings are significant because they furthervalidate the fact that ForsLean can promote whole body increases in lean bodymass, a key component in ensuring overall good health, as well as reductions inbody fat, said Vladimir Badmaev, M.D., Ph.D., vice president ofscientific and medical affairs with Sabinsa. Additionally, researchers notedthat ForsLeans unique mechanism of action allows for the possibility oflong-term use without potentially harmful side effects.
