GSE Has Powerful Antioxidant Impact

BIRMINGHAM Ala.Researchers atthe University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) report grape seed extract (GSE)affects specific proteins in healthy brains in ways that may protect againstfuture age-related dementia. The findings are published in the December issue ofthe Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (29,52(26):7872-7883, 2004) (http://pubs.acs.org/journals/jafcau/).

This is the first identification of specific molecules inmammalian tissues that are changed in response to oral intake of complex dietarysupplements like grape seed extract, said senior author Helen Kim, Ph.D., UAB research associateprofessor of pharmacology and toxicology, and senior scientist at thefederally-funded Purdue-UAB Botanicals Center for Dietary Supplements Research. In normal brains, this dietary supplement could protect against potentiallypathologic changes that eventually lead to dementias.
