HealthCentral Files for Chapter 11

EMERYVILLE, Calif.--HealthCentral (NASDAQ:HCEN) announced Oct. 9 that it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for itself and its wholly owned subsidiaries, which include HealthCentralRx.com and Vitamins.com. At press time, the company intended to proceed with the sale of its assets.

The announcement for bankruptcy followed the Sept. 18 announcement that it was going to trade on the Nasdaq SmallCap Market, and the Sept. 20 announcement that it reduced its workforce by 43 percent, going from 140 employees to 80.
