Kemin Announces New Food, BeverageApplications for FloraGLO

DES MOINES, Iowa--Kemin Foods announced at the IFTFood Expo in Anaheim, Calif., June 16 to 19, that its FloraGLO brand lutein isbeing introduced in three new products from the Ross Products Division of AbbotLaboratories, Sunsweet Growers and Country Pure Foods. Ross Products hasreformulated its Ensure brand nutritional supplement beverage to include 500mcg of FloraGLO per serving and includes a burst on the front of the packagethat says, "Now! Lutein To Help Support Eye Health." And, Sunsweet, aworldwide producer of dried plums, has reformulated its flagship prune juice toinclude 500 mcg of FloraGLO per serving with new labeling that says, "NowWith Lutein For Healthy Eyes." Finally, Fruit Well Eye Power, producedby Country Pure Foods and marketed under its flagship brand, Ardmore Farms,now contains FloraGLO. "We're extremely pleased that three nationalconsumer brands have formulated new products with FloraGLO lutein," saidAlex Fink, strategic marketing manager at Kemin (www.keminfoods.com)."And we expect other manufacturers to jump on board soon."

Also at the IFT show, Kemin offered sample foods and beverageswith added lutein that represented the seven additional categories for which itachieved GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status in June. Those categoriesare tomato-based pasta sauce; all types of snack crackers; all varieties ofcanned soups; all ready-to-drink teas; refrigerated yogurt; liquid, frozen andpowder egg substitute mixtures; and fermented milk beverages.
