MELBOURNE, AustraliaA flax ingredient rich in lignans (as LinumLife®, from Frutarom) significantly affected biomarkers of breast cancer risk in postmenopausal women, according to unpublished preliminary results from human studies conducted at RMIT University in Australia. LinumLife (www.linumlife.com) influenced anti-estrogenic effects associated with the decreased risk of breast health, endogenous sex hormone production, metabolism and biological activity on postmenopausal women.

Results from the first randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trial showed flaxseed lignans were metabolized to enterolactone and enterodiol in a dose-response manner and were, therefore, available to exert anti-estrogenic effects and influence endogenous sex hormone production, metabolism and biological activity. The second double blind, placebo-controlled trial supported the results of the first trial. According to researchers, both add to previous scientific evidence showing the beneficial effects of flaxseed lignans on breast health.
